October 10, 2020INSIDE MY ROOM #7
Continuing our segment of story time called INSIDE MY ROOM where we will be sharing poetry instead of monologues or fictional short stories. Today’s story time features a poem called snap. by Lauren Brady.
snap
Bodies break constantly. It’s normal. Pain is normal. I’ll do the show. What’s three hours? I’ll be fine. No one will know. I can put my body through the next three hours of dancing. I can do it. It’s fine. The show, Always goes on. I’m fine.
Curtain Call. Places.
Lights up.
“snap”
The show must go on.
something just snapped.
The show must go on.
left side of my body.
The show must go on.
I can’t feel it,
The show must go on.
I can finish the show.
The show must go on.
I got used to it don’t make a big deal
Don’t give yourself a bad name.
Curtains drop. We Bow. Smile.
Lights down.
“snap”
I let the show go on.
Tears streaming,
I let the show go on.
Loss of mobility,
I let the show go on.
No control,
I let the show go on.
paralyzed by pain.
I let the show go on.
it was my choice; i was okay with it.
this is what artists do.
i made my peace.
I let the show go on,
I paid the price.
